The importance of emotions for effective learning

If you remember any teacher who has influenced you during your life, or you remember something difficult to forget, I can confirm that emotions play a very important role in the learning process, since they are transmitted as a natural process, a result of millions of years of our evolution. Thus, it is the emotions we have that generate more impact on the people we communicate with, that is why it is difficult to forget them, or those people who influenced our life, are very difficult to take them out of our memories.

How are these emotions applied in the learning process?

In the learning process, it is always important to generate strong impacts, full of positive emotions and feelings, creating experiences that are difficult to forget. This makes your students learn things that they will always remember. It is fundamental to generate confidence, security, objectives, reflection, self-evaluation and to know your student well, observe how he or she learns more easily. In that way, you can generate emotions that leave a mark on his or her permanent memory.


How do I improve the quality of learning in my students?

Positive affection for your students improves the quality in all senses of the learning process. Avoid at all costs generating negative feelings in your students such as frustration, anxiety, shame, lack of motivation, stress. Instead, help them to generate positive feelings such as happiness, curiosity, creativity, motivation, so that they always enjoy the learning process.

Remember that by nature we feel insecure if we can't communicate. Always help them!

What can I do in my classes to generate strong emotions?

Offer diversity! Since we all learn in different ways, improve the self-esteem of your students by using material that facilitates learning for everyone, such as games, songs, easy tasks, daily life activities, real conversations, role-playing, dynamics. You will be surprised with all the material on the Internet to meet this need.

Offer a cycle in which one can reflect and create activities that can respond to the needs of each group or student, enriching them all in the learning process.


What should I do as a teacher to achieve effective learning in my students?


As a teacher, I advise you to always be motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about what you teach. This passion is what your students value the most! Be yourself, be unique, and trust yourself: it is important to plan and be organised, but the most important thing is to believe in yourself, and in your way of being, believe in your students and what they can achieve with their ability to learn.

What will my students take away with them at the end of their education?

They will take away what you have taught them with passion, with love. It is very easy to realize when someone is passionate about what they are doing because they show it with all their expressions. Show them how you are in love with the language and teach them that they can also fall in love, for the same or different reasons, and I assure you that they will never forget this.


Emotion is essential for learning. You always remember what you live, what you feel, what you do, and that becomes an experience that accompanies you throughout your life.
