Los pronombres personales – Personal pronouns in Spanish

In this lesson, we are going to learn the personal pronouns. The important difference to remember here is that there is a formal and an informal way of addressing people in Spanish.
Grammar
Personal pronouns in Spanish are essential for building sentences and expressing relationships. The most common pronouns are:
- Yo: I
- Tú: You (informal, singular)
- Él: He
- Ella: She
- Nosotros/Nosotras: We
- Vosotros/Vosotras: You (informal, plural)
- Ellos/Ellas: They
In Latin America, it’s crucial to distinguish between formal and informal speech. While “tú” is used for friends, family, and people you know well, “usted” is the formal form of “you.” This is a sign of respect, especially when addressing elders, authority figures, or people you don’t know well. The plural form of “usted” is “ustedes.”
