Me gusta(n) / no me gusta(n) – Express likes and dislikes

To express likes and dislikes in Spanish, we primarily use the verb “gustar” (to like). However, it works a bit differently than in English. Instead of saying “I like something” we say “Something pleases me”, meaning that the verb is reflexive. For example: “Me gusta el helado” means literally “Ice cream pleases me”, but we translate it as “I like ice cream”.
To express dislike, we simply add “no” before the verb. For instance, “No me gusta el café” means “I don’t like coffee”.
And when there is more than one thing that we like, we use the verb “gustar” in the plural form: “gustan“. That’s because we want to say that multiple things please us. For instance, “Me gustan el café y el helado” means “I like coffee and ice cream”.
⭐ Extra ⭐
To express a favourite in Spanish, you can use the word “favorito/favorita” (masculine/feminine). For example: “Mi comida favorita es la pizza” means “My favourite food is pizza”. We use favorit + a because the word “comida” is feminine.
